Terms and Conditions

Welcome to the wild. When you step into a YalaWales private 4x4 vehicle, you are entering the natural habitat of the Sri Lankan leopard, Asian elephant, and sloth bear. To ensure a safe, ethical, and world-class safari experience, all guests are strictly required to adhere to this Code of Conduct, which aligns fully with the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) regulations.

1. Absolute Vehicle Boundary Rule

Stay Inside: Guests must remain entirely inside the vehicle cabin at all times during the tracking drive. Standing on seats, leaning out of the side mesh, or extending cameras/selfie sticks excessively outside the jeep frame is strictly forbidden.
No Stepping Out: You may only disembark the vehicle at official, designated DWC rest areas (such as the Patanangala beach area or designated river banks) when your driver-tracker explicitly confirms it is safe to do so.

2. Noise Discipline & Electronics

Phones on Silent: All mobile devices and tablets must be switched to silent mode before entering the park gates.
No Loud Talking: When approaching an animal sighting (especially a leopard track or an elephant herd), guests must speak only in low whispers.
Zero Flash Photography: The use of camera flashes or external artificial lights is completely prohibited. Flash photography startles and blinds animals, which can trigger aggressive defensive behavior in large mammals like elephants.

3. Strict Prohibitions ( punishable under Sri Lankan Law )

No Feeding Wildlife: Feeding animals is illegal. It creates dangerous human-wildlife dependency and increases animal conflicts around the tracking roads.
No Littering: You must carry all trash back out of the park. Keep food wrappers, plastic water bottles, and organic waste secured tightly inside your bags. Even biodegradable items (like fruit peels) can attract wild animals or choke birds.
Alcohol & Smoking Ban: The possession or consumption of alcohol and smoking cigarettes inside Yala National Park is completely forbidden by federal law.
Leave Nature Intact: Collecting or removing any natural objects including colorful stones, sand/soil, feathers, wood, or plant samples is strictly prohibited.

4. Supporting Ethical Tracking

Respect Animal Space: Our driver-trackers maintain a mandatory safe buffer distance (at least 20 meters) from all large wildlife.
No Pressure Tactics: Please do not pressure your driver to speed up, off-road, or crowd an animal for a closer photo opportunity. Our team is trained to protect the park's fragile root systems and protect the natural behaviors of the animals.

5. Required Packing & Prep

Passport Mandatory: The DWC requires passport verification at the entry gates for all international tourists. Please ensure you carry your physical passport or a clear digital copy on your phone.
Neutral Attire: We strongly recommend wearing lightweight, breathable clothing in earth tones (khaki, beige, olive green, or brown). Avoid exceptionally bright colors (like vibrant reds or neon whites), which can startle tracking wildlife.
Dust & Sun Protection: Yala can be intensely dusty during dry season blocks. We highly advise bringing a light scarf or dust mask, sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and high-SPF sunscreen.
