Your Complete Safari Logistics Guide
Everything you need to know before stepping onto the rugged tracks of Yala. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Feel free to message our tracking team directly.
Dawn and dusk are prime tracking hours. Our morning safaris depart around 5:30 AM to catch apex predators while the air is crisp and they are moving on the tracks. Evening safaris (starting around 2:30 PM) offer incredible golden hour photography opportunities as leopards stir from their midday rest.
We highly recommend lightweight, breathable clothing in neutral earth tones (khaki, green, or grey) to blend into the environment avoid bright colors or pure white. Don't forget sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and your camera or binoculars!
We prioritize your comfort and experience, which is why we specialize in exclusive, private 4x4 safari jeeps. You won't have to share your vehicle with strangers, giving you complete freedom to spend as much time as you want at a wildlife sighting with your personal naturalist.
Yes, safaris are incredibly educational and exciting for kids! However, because Yala is a completely wild environment and tracking drives can last 3 to 4 hours on bumpy dirt roads, we recommend our shorter half-day morning tours for families traveling with younger children.
Yala Block 1 has one of the highest leopard densities in the world, they are still completely wild, free roaming animals. No ethical agency can guarantee a sighting. However, our master naturalists who read jungle alarm calls and footprints to give you the highest possible probability of an encounter.
The wild doesn't stop for rain! Animals often become highly active right after a shower. Our custom 4x4 vehicles are equipped with quick deploy, transparent waterproof canvas covers to keep you and your camera gear completely dry while keeping your view of the jungle clear.

We were incredibly lucky to spot three different leopards on our morning drive. Our driver tracker was incredibly patient, positioning the Mahindra jeep perfectly so everyone got clean camera angles without crowding the animals. The private jeep experience made all the difference. Highly recommended!

Traveling with two young kids can be stressful, but the team made it seamless. The complimentary hotel pickup from Tissamaharama was right on time at 5:15 AM. The jeep was pristine, and our guide was so knowledgeable, keeping the kids engaged pointing out crocodiles and rare birds.

If you are serious about photography, book the combined package. Bypassing the busier main gates to explore the deep wilderness of Blocks 4 & 5 on day two was spectacular. We saw elephants playing in the lagoons and a sloth bear climbing a Palu tree. Unforgettable experience!
